The Friends of the Orpheum Theatre in celebration of our beloved tradition of Silent Sundays debuts The Unknown. The Unknown is a 1927 American silent horror film directed by Tod Browning and starring Lon Chaney as carnival knife thrower “Alonzo the Armless” and Joan Crawford as his beloved carnival girl Nanon.

Guests are invited to enjoy this classic film in one of the most beautiful and historic venues in downtown Phoenix. RPM Orchestra will be performing throughout the movie but also expect some theatrical surprises throughout the show, making this a once in a lifetime cinematic experience.

A short silent horror film will play before the feature presentation.

Frankenstein is a 1910 short film directed by J. Searle Dawley and produced by Edison Studios. Generally recognized as the first screen adaptation of Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel, it was fully restored by the Library of Congress in 2018.

RPM ORCHESTRA is a proto-Industrial Americana music quintet, best known for composing original scores to accompany films of the Silent Era, awarded ‘Best of Phoenix 2018 – Best Live Accompaniment’ by Phoenix New Times, which wrote, “Combining old-timey instrumentation with radio sounds, haunting samples, and modern noise, RPM creates compelling and timeless soundscapes.”
